The Moment of Salvation

The Moment of Salvation

How are we saved? Is it though faith alone? Or is it more?

Christ calls us to believe in Him, and through that, all our sins will be forgiven. For He bore all the sins of this world on the cross, taking our place for our righteous punishment, and placing it onto Himself. And through His most Holy Resurrection, He defeated death, gifting us eternal life.

So, does that mean that by believing in Him alone grants us eternal life? Yes and no. The answer is more complicated. Because what does "believing in Jesus Christ" mean? It means that we recognize Jesus as our Lord, loving Him with all our heart. So, I ask you, is it possible to love Him completely and fully, and still sin? The answer is no, as these 2 things completely exclude each other.

But in that case, we are all doomed, because none of us can go a single day without sinning in some way or another. Only saints have managed to live close to that ideal. Does that mean we all have to go and live in complete isolation and pray constantly to be saved?

No, because our Lord has granted us the gift of repentence. This means that even when we fall into sin, we can repent of our sins and the Lord will absolve us from them. When we repent by confessing our sins to a priest, in that exact moment we are absolved of our sins, and we can carve a new path for ourselves.

And that is the exact moment where we find our salvation. When we have fallen, but we turn to the Lord in humility, to ask for His forgiveness, and try to live a better life from then onwards. Because, no one's life is without difficulty and the traps to fall into sin, but if we truly regret our sins, out of pure love towards the Lord, we are broken free from the chains of sin. As Jesus says in Luke 5:31-32, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” All of us fall short. All of us struggle. But our salvation is in the struggle.
