This design captures one of the most famous orthodox icons, that of Jesus the Pantokrator ("Παντοκράτωρ" means all-powerful in Greek). This characterization of Jesus implies his divinity and his endless power. This icon is intended to portray Jesus in all His might and grace. The design is coupled with the verse from John 8:58, where Jesus reveals his divine nature. He was criticized by the Pharisees, questioning His authority to deliver His teachings. "You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham?" (John 8:57). Jesus replied, "Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am." "I am", translates from old Hebrew "YHWE", which was the name used to refer to God. In other words, Jesus is claiming to be ever-existing, which means He is claiming to be God.
